Welcome to the portfolio site of Emily R. Fuller

Emily Rutgers Fuller is a contemporary realist painter who finds subject matter in New York State’s Harlem River Valley in northeast Dutchess County. She was born in New York City and raised in Long Island. Her grandmother, Lucy W. Hurry, a noted Long Island still life watercolorist, inspired Emily. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, where she received her BS in Art Education, the Art Student’s League, and School of Visual Arts in New York City. She currently resides in downtown New York City and northeastern Dutchess County.

Originally trained as an abstract artist, Emily searches for the abstract in realistic views that she combines to make her landscapes more interesting. Her fine sense of color has always been a very important aspect of her work.

"Emily Fuller's paintings present plain views of neighboring hills; she returns repeatedly to the same landscape, ensuring a sense of commonality with the land. Equally important are these works' commitment to painting; her marks ensure that we see them as paintings, not depictions."

- Vincent Katz
Poet and Art Critic
